Moth Records Analysis

This page allows you to analyse the number of records by week within a chosen year.

The size of the plots indicates how many regular recorders were active in a particular week and the vertical position of the plot indicates how many records were submitted for that week.

Notes:

This tool is intended to be used to help identify inconsistancies in the sample coverage and should be used when attempting to interpret the species season charts.

It would seem reasonable to assume that a small plot (meaning that fewer regular recorders were recording that week) high on the chart would indicate that there were a lot of moths flying during that week. Conversely, a large plot low on the chart would indicate that very few moths were flying during that week.

Regular recorders are identified as those who submitted records from the same location on at least 10% of the separate days in the year being analysed.
