General Information

This moth has a yellowish brown forewing with an ill-defined whitish fascia beyond the middle.

 

The larvae produce a long angular gallery. Unlike the similar mine produced by S. lapponica this mine has black frass throughout.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.

Wingspan: 5-6 mm.
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.)
Flying: One generation, May
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Regional Information

Recorded in 21 (7.8%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in October 2017
