Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 18-22mm.
Foodplant(s): hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), birches (Betula spp.), oaks (Quercus spp.), honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.), Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), Heather (Calluna vulgaris), broadleaved shrubs
Flying: One generation, late June-early September
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, scrub, hedgerows, parks and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 131 (48.5%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
