General Information

This moth is easily confused with I. masculella although the costa markings differ slightly and the males of oehlmanniella have simple antennae unlike the combed antennae of I. mascuella.

 

The larvae produce a small blotch mine which is elongated to form a linear mine. Eventually, a case is cut from the end of blotch and the cased larvae feed on dead leaves on the ground.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.

Wingspan: 12-15 mm.
Foodplant(s): Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), Cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus), Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa)
Flying: One generation, June-July
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland and moorland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 7 (2.6%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
