General Information

This moth has a comb-like or 'pectinate' antennae which is unusual in the microlepidotera.

 

The larvae produce mines which are very similar to those produced by I. pectinea.


Wingspan: 12-16 mm
Foodplant(s): hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), roses (Rosa spp.), Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Hazel (Corylus avellana), Beech (Fagus sylvatica), oaks (Quercus spp.), Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)
Flying: One generation, April-June
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Recorded in 35 (13%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
