General Information

This species is very difficult to distinguish from other members of the Yponomeuta, even by genitalia examination. Identification is best achieved with reference to the food plant.

 

The larvae feed gregariously from a silken web.

Both sexes come to light.

Wingspan: 19-22mm
Foodplant(s): Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), plums (Prunus spp.), cherries (Prunus spp.)
Flying: One generation, July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Recorded in 64 (23.7%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
