General Information

This species has a characteristic distinct black spot near the wing apex.

 

Adults sometimes overwinter in haystacks.

 

The larvae produce a 'snail-trail'-like mine.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an adult.

Wingspan: 7-8mm
Foodplant(s): Black Poplar (Populus nigra), Lombardy Poplar (Populus nigra 'Italica')
Flying: Two generations, July and September-April (hibernates)
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common
