General Information

The dark "tooth" mark in the centre of the forewing is diagnostic.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 15-20mm.
Foodplant(s): Common Sea-lavender (Limonium vulgare), Greater Plantain (Plantago major), goosefoots (Chenopodium spp.), herbaceous plants
Flying: Two generations, May-early July and late July-early September
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Local

Habitat

Salt marshes, coastal grassland and inland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 52 (19.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in May 2023

Recorded date range (Adult): 21 April to 10 September
