General Information

Pupates in a crevice in bark or in foliage.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Male readily comes to light, sometimes in numbers. Female not.
Often found at rest during day

Forewing length: M 18-20mm. F 20-28mm.
Foodplant(s): Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur), Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), birches (Betula spp.), Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Aspen (Populus tremula), pines (Pinus spp.), spruces (Picea spp.)
Flying: One generation, late July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Local

Habitat

Mature woodland, heathland and scrub.

Regional Information

Recorded in 79 (29.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
