General Information

This is the only British Burnet moth with six red spots on each forewing. In some forms the outer spots are merged.

 

This is a rare yellow form.

 

Overwinters as a larva, sometimes twice. Pupates in a cocoon in an exposed position on a grass stem.

Forewing length: 15-19mm.
Foodplant(s): Common Bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus corniculatus), Greater Bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus pedunculatus)

Grassland, verges, coastal habitats.

Recorded in 93 (34.4%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
