General Information

This is a day-flying species feeding at tubular flowers such as Bugle, Honeysuckle etc.

 

Much decreased due to the decline of coppicing, maturation of dense stands of conifers and browsing of Honeysuckle by increased deer populations.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Flies during the day

Forewing length: 20-24mm.
Foodplant(s): honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.), Snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus)
Flying: One/two generations, mid May-early July and August-September
National status: Nationally Scarce B

Habitat

Woodland rides, open areas and heathland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 4 (1.5%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in June 1955

Recorded date range (Adult): 15 May to 07 July

Recorded date range (Larva/Leafmine): 22 June to 12 August
