General Information

This is a sexually dimorphic species in that the males are more brightly coloured and patterned than the females.


Wingspan: 18-44 mm.
Foodplant(s): comb from bee or wasp nests
Flying: Two overlapping generations, June-August
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, fens, grassland, heathland and scrub.

Regional Information

Recorded in 117 (43.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Recorded date range (Adult): 10 April to 17 October

Recorded date range (Larva/Leafmine): 30 August to 30 August
