General Information

This species can be distinguished from both sexes of E.gentianaeana and E.oblongana by its conspicuously white hindwings, although genital dissection is usually required for a positive identification.


Wingspan: 11-16 mm.
Foodplant(s): Betony (Stachys officinalis), Common Hemp-nettle (Galeopsis tetrahit), Lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica), Yellow-rattle (Rhinanthus minor), Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata), teasels (Dipsacus spp.)
Flying: One generation, May-August
National status: Common

Habitat

Rough meadows and grassland, waysides, embankments, damp woods, boggy heaths and fens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 21 (7.8%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
