General Information

Occurs wherever major foodplants grow, most plentiful amongst blackthorn scrub near the coast.

The 'Pistol Case-bearers' are so named from the resemblance of their larval cases to an old flintlock pistol !


Wingspan: 12-16 mm
Foodplant(s): hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), Apple (Malus domestica), broadleaved trees, broadleaved shrubs
Flying: One generation, June-July

Recorded in 28 (10.4%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
