General Information

This is one of the larger of the four metallic bronzy-green Coleophoridae.

 

The larvae form black cases from seedpods (several pods may be joined together).

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.
Flies during the day

Wingspan: 15-20 mm
Foodplant(s): Ribbed Melilot (Melilotus officinalis), Tall Melilot (Melilotus altissima)
Flying: One generation, June-July
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Local

Habitat

Rough grassland, wasteland and roadside verges.

Regional Information

Recorded in 29 (10.7%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2023
