This species has six yellow bands on the abdomen and orange scales on tip of central bar of forewing which are diagnostic.
The larvae spend most of their time in the roots of the food plant.

Coastal grassland, embankments, quarries, cliffs, etc, mainly chalk or limestone.
Recorded in 25 (9.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
