General Information

This species can be identifed by the single broad red band on the abdomen.

 

Pheromone attractants: myo or myo api.


Moth activity times: 8:45-18:00, peak 11:00-13:00.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Flies during the day

Forewing length: 9-11mm.
Foodplant(s): Apple (Malus domestica), Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), pears (Pyrus spp.), Almond (Prunus dulcis), Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia)
Flying: Two overlapping generations, June-August

Habitat

Orchards, gardens, hedgerows and woodland. Favours Crab Apple and old, cankerous, cultivated apple and pear trees.

Regional Information

Recorded in 31 (11.5%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
