General Information

This moth has a black head and bronzy brown/grey forewings with a green tint. There is a pale yellow spot at the base of the forewing.

 

The larvae produce a long sinuous gallery which widens gradually and is filled with green frass.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.

Wingspan: 4.5-6mm.
Foodplant(s): oaks (Quercus spp.)
Flying: Two generations, May-June and July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Recorded in 190 (70.4%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
