General Information

This moth has a black head, bright coppery red forewings glossed with purple and a silver fascia.

 

The larvae produce a very variable mine, many of which have named forms.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.

Wingspan: 4-5mm.
Foodplant(s): elms (Ulmus spp.)
Flying: One generation, June
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Regional Information

Recorded in 177 (65.6%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
