General Information

This species has a chestnut ground colour and several blackish marks on the leading edge of the forewing.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 14-17mm
Foodplant(s): Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria), Common Sorrel (Rumex acetosa), Bladder Campion (Silene vulgaris), oaks (Quercus spp.), sallows (Salix spp.), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), herbaceous plants, broadleaved trees
Flying: One generation, late August-October
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Broadleaved woodland, parkland, grassland, heathland, fens, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 68 (25.2%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
