General Information

This is an extremely variable species.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

 

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 13-15mm.
Foodplant(s): campions (Silene spp.), Nottingham Catchfly (Silene nutans), Rock Sea-spurrey (Spergularia rupicola)
Flying: One/two generations, May-July and August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Dry grassy or stony habitats such as chalk downland and shingle beaches.

Regional Information

Recorded in 32 (11.9%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2022

Recorded date range (Adult): 27 April to 23 September
