General Information

This moth is coarsely-scaled with a dull greyish-brown forewing and an indistinct creamy fascia.

 

The larvae produce a narrow angular gallery, which initially has green frass but which abruptly changes to black with clear margins.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.

Wingspan: 5-7 mm.
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.)
Flying: One generation, May
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Regional Information

Recorded in 35 (13%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2019
