General Information

This is one of three very similar relatives. It can be distinguished by the diagnostic white head/palps and blackish thorax.


Wingspan: c. 13 mm.
Foodplant(s): ragworts (Senecio spp.), hawk's-beards (Crepis spp.), hawkweeds (Hieracium spp.), Perennial Sow-thistle (Sonchus arvensis), Goldenrod (Solidago virguarea)
Flying: Two generations, June and August
National status: Local

Habitat

Rough grassy hillsides, fens, railway banks, waste ground.

Regional Information

Recorded in 47 (17.4%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
