General Information

In general, this species is more yellowish-brown, with well-defined cross-lines and reniform stigma, and less 'glossy' in appearance than the very similar 'Rustic'. It is necessary to refer to the genitalia for confirmation.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 14-16mm.
Foodplant(s): docks (Rumex spp.), chickweeds (Stellaria spp.), dead-nettles (Lamium spp.), Primrose (Primula vulgaris), herbaceous plants
Flying: One generation, mid June-mid August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, open meadows and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 145 (53.7%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
