General Information

This species is quite variable in colour.

 

Pupates amongst the roots of the food plant.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 14-18mm.
Foodplant(s): Common Couch (Elytrigia repens), grasses, cereal crops
Flying: One generation, August-September
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Grassland, arable fields, coastal sand-dunes and cliffs, open woodland, heathland, fens and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 129 (47.8%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
