General Information

This species is generally greyer than similar species, usually with a rosy or purplish tint.

 

Pupates in loose soil or in leaf litter.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 10-13mm.
Foodplant(s): Lyme-grass (Elymus arenarius), Marram (Ammophila arenaria), Cock's-foot (Dactylis glomerata), grasses, cereal crops
Flying: One generation, mid July-late August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Fens, grassland, open woodland, scrub, heathland, coastal areas and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 36 (13.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2022

Recorded date range (Adult): 01 June to 26 August
