General Information

This species has a broad, rounded forewing which is grey with blackish markings.

 

f. suffusa, found in Northern England, has blackish grey ground colour.

 

Pupates in leaf litter.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes come to light.
Often found at rest during day

Forewing length: 16-20mm.
Foodplant(s): Bog-myrtle (Myrica gale), Heather (Calluna vulgaris), Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), sallows (Salix spp.), broadleaved shrubs
Flying: One generation, late May-mid July
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Local

Habitat

Moorland, bogs, heathland.
