General Information

This moth has a brown body and yellow wings with shades of brown radiating out from the body to the tips of the wing. The colour and patterning are very variable.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light but in small numbers only.
Often disturbed during day

Forewing length: 13-16mm.
Foodplant(s): cleavers (Galium aparine), bedstraws (Galium spp.), docks (Rumex spp.), Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), herbaceous plants
Flying: One generation, June-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Hedgerows, field boundaries and urban areas.

Regional Information

Recorded in 156 (57.8%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
