General Information

This species is very variable but has a large, coarse scale tuft in the middle of the forewing which is peculiar to this species.


Wingspan: 18-22 mm.
Foodplant(s): Rosaceae (Rosaceae spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.)
Flying: One generation, August-November and March-May (hibernates)
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Recorded in 30 (11.1%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
