General Information

This is a sexually dimorphic species, the males having broader and squarer forewings than the female and feathery antennae.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light, males more often than females.

Forewing length: M 16-18mm. F 14-16mm.
Foodplant(s): vetches (Vicia spp.), plantains (Plantago spp.), docks (Rumex spp.), Bistort (Persicaria bistorta), herbaceous plants
Flying: One generation, June-July
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, heathland, scrub, grassland and fen areas.

Regional Information

Recorded in 132 (48.9%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2023

Recorded date range (Adult): 03 May to 25 August
