General Information

This species is shorter and broader than the similar species but is variable in ground colour.

 

Overwinters underground as a larva and pupates in the spring.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 14-18mm.
Foodplant(s): Fat-hen (Chenopodium album), docks (Rumex spp.), Wild Carrot (Daucus carota), herbaceous plants
Flying: One generation, mid June-early August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Coastal sand-dunes, dry grassland and woodland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 83 (30.7%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in September 2023

Recorded date range (Adult): 16 May to 08 October
