This is a quite variable species. Of the two main forms of this species which occur regularly, f. obscura is the most common and resembles a number of other species. The nominate form is more well-marked and can resemble the Pale-shouldered Brocade (Lacanobia thalassina).
Pupates in loose soil.
Grassland, open woodland, fens, vegetated shingle and scrub.
Recorded in 88 (32.6%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
