General Information

This species flies rapidly in sunshine visiting flowers such as Viper's-bugloss, clovers and others.

 

Pupates on or in the ground.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Flies during the day

Forewing length: 13-15mm.
Foodplant(s): flowers, restharrows (seedheads) (Ononis spp.), Common Toadflax (Linaria vulgaris), White Campion (Silene latifolia), Bladder Campion (Silene vulgaris), Chicory (Cichorium intybus), Wild Carrot (Daucus carota), herbaceous plants
Flying: One/two generations, mid June-July and July-September
UK Presence: Resident, Possible Immigrant

Habitat

Grassland, sand and shingle beaches, and other open grassy areas.

Recorded in 3 (1.1%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
