General Information

This species is variable but unmistakable.

 

Pupates on the food plant.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Male readily comes to light, sometimes in numbers. Female not.
Often found at rest during day

Forewing length: 18-21mm.
Foodplant(s): Garden Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium), Lilac (Syringa vulgaris), jasmines (Jasminum spp.)
Flying: One generation, mid April-June
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Broadleaved woodland, heathland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 97 (35.9%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
