General Information

This is a highly variable species with several named forms and subspecies. The ground colour vanges from yellowish to white.

 

Pupates underground.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.
Flies during the day

Forewing length: 11-15mm.
Foodplant(s): clovers (Trifolium spp.), trefoils (Lotus spp.), Lucerne (Medicago sativa)
Flying: Two generations, May-June and July-September
UK Presence: Immigrant, Possible Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Open habitats, grassland, fens and heathland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 100 (37%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
