Pinion-spotted Pug (Eupithecia insigniata, (Hübner, 1790))

General Information
This species is one of the few pugs which can be readily identified by its distinctive markings.

Pupates in a crevice, in leaf litter or in loose soil.
Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 10-12mm.
Foodplant(s): hawthorns (Crataegus spp.)
Flying: One generation, late April-May
National status: Nationally Scarce B

Habitat

Hedgerows and edges of woods.

Regional Information

Recorded in 10 (3.7%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
