General Information

Forewing grey or grey-brown and rather pointed, quite sharply in female, which is generally smaller. Dark cross-bands before and after central dot are of more or less thickness, and are edged with greyish white. There is usually a short, dark, narrow diagonal dash at wing tip, not reaching the dark cross-bands.

 

Overwinters as a pupa, in a cocoon on the surface of the ground among plant debris.

Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Flying: Two generations, May-June and August

Habitat

Breckland of Norfolk and Suffolk, limestone and coastal sand-dunes.

Regional Information

Recorded in 2 (0.7%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
