General Information

This moth has a purplish-bronzy forewing with a silvery fascia.

 

The larvae produce a slender, angular gallery. Several larvae can often be found mining the same leaf.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.

Wingspan: 3-4 mm.
Foodplant(s): Hazel (Corylus avellana), Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus)
Flying: Two generations, May and August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Regional Information

Recorded in 187 (69.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in November 2022

Recorded date range (Adult): 16 May to 29 October

Recorded date range (Larva/Leafmine): 11 June to 04 December
