General Information

The males fly between dawn and sunrise around blackthorn thickets, woods and hedgerows. The females fly only at night.

 

This moth generally has a darker ground colour than S. avellanella.


Wingspan: 18-23mm
Foodplant(s): Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.)
Flying: One generation, April-May

Recorded in 19 (7%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
