General Information

This species is lighter and has a more brick-red appearance than the Beautiful Golden Y.

 

Pupates in a cocoon attached to the underside of a leaf.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 17-21mm.
Foodplant(s): Common Nettle (Urtica dioica), White Dead-nettle (Lamium album), Red Dead-nettle (Lamium purpureum), Common Hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium), honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.), herbaceous plants
Flying: One generation, mid June-early August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, scrub, fens, grassland, heathland and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 55 (20.4%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in June 2019
