General Information

This species is one of the more strongly marked Wainscots.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 16-19mm.
Foodplant(s): Cock's-foot (Dactylis glomerata), grasses
Flying: One generation, late May-late July
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Heathland, scrub, grassland, fens and open woodland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 73 (27%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2023

Recorded date range (Adult): 17 May to 30 August

Recorded date range (Larva/Leafmine): 02 July to 16 August
