This is a variable species with several forms. The bold chequered pattern and contrasting ground colour of the forewing are characteristic.


Wingspan: 12-18 mm.
Foodplant(s): Ox-tongue fungus (Fistulina hepatica), hawkweeds (Hieracium spp.)
Flying: One generation, May-August
