General Information

This species has very variable colouring, with the relatively frequent, f. flavescens, having the darker markings almost absent.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 14-17mm.
Foodplant(s): sallows (Salix spp.), poplars (Populus spp.), herbaceous plants
Flying: One generation, September-October
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Broadleaved woodland, carr, marshes, fens and heathland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 92 (34.1%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in October 2022

Recorded date range (Adult): 03 August to 15 November

Recorded date range (Larva/Leafmine): 11 March to 10 April
