General Information

Pupates in a cocoon on or under the food plant.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.
Often found at rest during day

Forewing length: M 16-22mm. F17-23mm.
Foodplant(s): hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), birches (Betula spp.), Hazel (Corylus avellana), oaks (Quercus spp.), sallows (Salix spp.), elms (Ulmus spp.), broadleaved trees, broadleaved shrubs
Flying: One generation, July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Hedgerows, woodland, gardens and urban areas.

Regional Information

Recorded in 141 (52.2%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
