General Information

This moth is quite variable with several named forms. The nominate form is very rare in the UK. The species often has a pale blotch on the dorsal area edged in black.


Wingspan: 18-22 mm.
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.), Hazel (Corylus avellana), sallows (Salix spp.)
Flying: Two overlapping generations, June-August
National status: Common

Habitat

Birch woods and mixed woodland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 25 (9.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
