Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 15-18mm.
Foodplant(s): Broad-leaved Dock (Rumex obtusifolius), Common Sorrel (Rumex acetosa), Broom (Cytisus scoparius), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), Field Gromwell (Lithospermum arvense), Annual Meadow-grass (Poa annua), Tufted Hair-grass (Deschampsia cespitosa), broadleaved shrubs, grasses
Flying: One generation, September-October
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Open habitats, grassland, heathland and coastal areas on chalky or lighter soils.

Regional Information

Recorded in 63 (23.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
