General Information

This species has distinctive long labial palps and tufts on the tail segment.

 

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Male readily comes to light, sometimes in numbers. Female not.

Forewing length: 18-25mm.
Foodplant(s): Aspen (Populus tremula), poplars (Populus spp.), willows (Salix spp.)
Flying: Two generations, May-June and July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, open spaces and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 133 (49.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2023
