General Information

This species has a brown or dark brown forewing with a slightly hooked tip. The central crossband is generally lighter than the ground colour and is usually edged in black. Occasionally there are white patches on the trailing edge of the forewing.

 

Pupates in loose earth.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 14-18mm.
Foodplant(s): Dog-rose (Rosa canina), Wild Rose (Rosa acicularis)
Flying: One generation, late February-April
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, hedgerows, scrub and gardens.

Regional Information

Recorded in 86 (31.9%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
