General Information

Pupates amongst leaves.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 11-12mm.
Foodplant(s): Downy Birch (Betula pubescens), Silver Birch (Betula pendula), Hazel (Corylus avellana), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), oaks (Quercus spp.), Sweet Chestnut (Castanea sativa), Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea), sallows (Salix spp.), Broom (Cytisus scoparius)
Flying: One generation, May-June
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Open woodland, mature hedgerows and scrubby heathland, moorland and grassland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 12 (4.4%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
