General Information

Pupates in a silken cocoon on or under the food plant.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Male readily comes to light, sometimes in numbers. Female not.
Often found at rest during day

Forewing length: M 21-22mm. F 27-31mm.
Foodplant(s): Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris), oaks (Quercus spp.), birches (Betula spp.), elms (Ulmus spp.), Hazel (Corylus avellana), Common Hop (Humulus lupulus), broadleaved trees, broadleaved shrubs
Flying: One generation, May-June
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Gardens, hedgerows, parks, woodland and scrub.

Recorded in 103 (38.1%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
